Velvet bean, listed as Kunj Safaid or Mucuna pruriens, is supplied whole or ground. Despite the word bean, this product should not be treated as an ordinary kitchen pulse. The catalogue states that batch levodopa content, grade and purity have not been independently tested.
Why levodopa matters
RIVM's risk assessment explains that Mucuna seed extracts contain levodopa, the active substance used in Parkinson's medicines. It could not establish a safe dose for the assessed extracts and highlighted potential adverse effects and medicine interactions. Those findings do not measure this retail seed lot, but they make casual self-dosing inappropriate.
Whole seeds and powder are not a prescription
Seed colour, a small spoonful or a fine grind cannot reveal levodopa concentration. Do not replace prescribed treatment, combine it with Parkinson's medication or assume that a natural source is gentler. Discuss any contemplated internal use with a clinician or pharmacist.
Who needs particular care?
RIVM advises against the assessed preparations during pregnancy, breastfeeding and with liver or kidney problems. Keep this material away from children and food. Request botanical authentication, testing and a clear intended-use specification before professional assessment. This article provides no processing recipe, dose or promise about dopamine, fertility or performance.
